Laravel & WordPress rescue. Optimization, repair and recovery for teams who want to work again.

A creaking codebase can lead to bugs and data errors. Solutions can range from simple to complex — but a plan of action is the first solid step.

The situation

An existing platform that isn’t working, or a buggy install that keeps throwing errors. Nobody trusts the data. Your team has quietly given up on it, working around the system instead of through it — and every workaround costs you a little more time and a little more confidence.

How I get you working again

A content management system can be powerful and genuinely useful — but it has a lot of moving parts, and sometimes things get jammed up.

Your team relies on it for secure, timely data management, so it’s vital that problems get fixed before you lose time and money. A poorly optimised database, inefficient code, or a system that’s just no longer fit for purpose — there are plenty of things that can cause an existing platform to lose its edge. But whatever the issue, it’s very likely I can hop on board and fix it.

My process usually works like this:

  1. Code review. Getting to grips with your CMS starts with a review of the codebase — on your systems or mine. A separate staging server is highly advisable here: even for a review, some testing and debugging helps me experiment and pin down where the problems lie.
  2. Agreement. We’ll talk through the details together and agree a plan of action. I won’t make any changes until you’re happy with the scope, we’ve finalised the agreement, and the initial payment is invoiced.
  3. Repair and recovery. The actual work: fixing broken workflows and bringing the system back up to speed. Along the way I may recommend additional services or third-party tools — a new hosting provider for better performance, say.

What you end up with

  • Your critical workflows rewritten and working again, with enough tests around them to prove it — and to give you solid groundwork for deploying changes safely from here on.
  • Data modelling that works for you and your team. Trust in your data is regained, and you’re no longer forced into messy workarounds to dodge the old inefficiencies.
  • A clear record of what was going wrong, the steps taken to fix it, and a plan for keeping the repaired system running smoothly.

An initial rescue strategy call is the first step to bringing your platform back up to speed. We’ll talk through the specifics, and I’ll prepare a scope document and timeline for you to sign off.

What teams ask before a rescue

The practical stuff, up front.

What type of projects do you take on?

I primarily work on Laravel- or WordPress-based projects, but I’m happy to look at other platforms and assess whether yours is a good fit.

Patch or rebuild?

In most cases a patch is sufficient. A full rebuild is a much larger and time-consuming process, which can often be extremely beneficial — but especially in the short term, a patch will get you back on your feet.

How fast can you start?

A rescue strategy call can be arranged within a few days. Once we’ve agreed a suitably thorough scope document, the work gets underway — usually a week or two, depending on complexity. The most urgent issues can be tackled first.

What about long-term support?

Once a project’s completed — rebuild or repair — I offer ongoing maintenance retainer packages that keep me on hand for as long as you need me. Every job also comes with a warranty period covering bugs and defects in the scoped items.

Let's talk.

I help content-rich organisations understand their data and fix broken admin. Tell me what specific problems you're having and I'll be happy to talk solutions with you.
